Body builder ends life fighting depression

NEW DELHI: Devastated by his father's illness who suffered from cancer, his own business loss, a man famous on social media as a bodybuilder, ended his life by consuming poison in the form of sulphas tablets.

The deceased Neeraj Tanwar, known as Neeraj Pepsu Gurjar was a resident of Asola Village in Fatehpur Beri. His Facebook page and other multiple accounts on social media like Instagram was flooded with condolence messages with most of his followers and friends posting photos of him and their gathering at his house for condolences. His popularity was so much that many of his social media followers, in a mark of respect changed their profile pictures and put Neeraj's pictures followed by 'rest in peace' messages.

Neeraj was 26 year-old and he was not doing well in his recent venture of hotel business and slipped into depression and committed suicide. However, no suicide note was recovered from his house where his body was found. The matter was reported as the hospital authorities informed the police on Saturday. The hospital authority informed the police about the admission of a victim with the history of unknown poisoning.

According to the police, Neeraj consumed sulphas tablets and complained of vomiting on Saturday morning and was taken to a private hospital where he died.

"During the enquiry, it was revealed that his father is suffering from cancer and Neeraj was under depression. He had started a dhaba in Gurgaon but could not continue the business. He also worked as a bouncer for some time. He had not been working for last three-four months," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Atul Kumar Thakur.

The body was handed over to family members on Monday after post-mortem at the AIIMS. Hundreds of people gathered at his house from Delhi and outside.

"We will always miss you brother," said one of his admirer Priyanshu.
