Singh was awarded a party ticket from Mundka assembly segment, after using pressure tactics by sending his resignation from the post of mayor to the party’s national president Rajnath Singh.
It is being seen as another step by the party to indicate that Singh is the real heir to the political legacy of former Delhi chief minister and Jat leader, Sahib Singh Verma. The first step was securing nomination from Mundka seat by shifting the sitting MLA Manoj Shokeen to Nangloi Jat seat. Azad Singh had secured nomination by arm-twisting methods. By then he had already ensured that Verma’s son Pravesh Verma was fielded from Mehrauli in the ensuing Delhi assembly elections.
Millennium Post on Monday reported that Verma’s younger brother Azad Singh and his son Pravesh Verma were fighting for the political legacy of former Delhi chief minister. Jats are in a majority at approximately 10 seats of west and north west Delhi. The party has apparently given a thumbs down to the claims of former CM’s political disciples on his political legacy in the Jat community.
Besides, Azad Singh the party has also appointed Vijay Pandit and Sher Singh Dagar as vice presidents of the Delhi unit. According to sources these appointments have been made to quell rebel voices in the party due to alleged ‘partiality’ in the distribution of tickets.
