DDA ropes in four NGOs for revival of major water bodies

Delhi Development Authority has engaged four non government organisations for revival, conservation and development of all major water bodies on its land through public private participation model. In the project the selected NGOs will adopt the water bodies of their choice and pool the funds from corporate sector through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) arms.

Besides, reviving these water bodies, they will beautify and maintain it. The banks of water bodies would be developed as parks and jogging tracks to make it useful for the people living around it,’ said Balvinder Kumar, vice chairman of DDA. ‘We have provided them the list of water bodies and separate Memorandum of Understanding will be signed with them for revival and redevelopment of each water body,’ added Kumar. The authority has finalised a list of 63 water bodies for the project the famous among them being Hauz Khas, Purana Quila, Sanjay Lake, K N Ridge Khooni Jheel, K N Ridge Serpentine Jheel, Maharaja Surjmal Park, Shashtri Park, Ghazipur, Satpulla Dam Khirki, Tughlakabad, six water bodies in Madangir, Bhagwati Talab, Jheel Park Madipur, Palam and Najafgarh. 

Out of the 63 water bodies the maximum 21 fall in Dwarka zone of DDA followed by 14 in South Delhi areas.
