Day 1 of CAT exam conducted smoothly

Day 1 for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2013, for the Indian Institute of Management and other management institutions ended peacefully under high security. Morning session concluded successfully in all testing locations, as over 4,000 students appeared in the exam on the first day.
Many students outside the centers said, ‘Around five to nine per cent of the candidates did not turn up on the very first day, which is normal. No wonder then, that many candidates who turned up for the first day, first slot of CAT 2013 were quite optimistic.’ Arindam Singh, student taking up the test at the Cemter Delhi School Business, Pitampura said, ‘The tests were held very smoothly. I was worried before appearing for the exam, as getting into the IIMs would significantly boost my career options. But when I saw paper it was not very complicated.’
Raghu Shri, took CAT exam said, ‘I was optimistic about my chances. However, I saw that some of the students were sent back as they reported late to the centres. The candidates have been asked to report two hours in advance but I am happy I wasn’t late.’
The examination will be held from 16 October to 11 November in prometric centres across 40 cities. The total duration of test was two hours and 35 minutes, including the tutorial. This increase in locations from 36 cities last year provides candidates greater flexibility and convenience for choosing a suitable day for a test.
