Cops bust gambling racket, ‘satta’ king , 21 others held

Delhi police have arrested ‘satta king of North India’ Hazi Usman along with 20 others. The matka racket operating in central Delhi has been busted.

More than Rs 4.20 lakh, satta notebooks, satta parchis and incriminating documents have been recovered. Twenty one persons, including cashiers, managers, supervisors and gamblers are arrested.

A special unit of crime branch has been tipped off that for the last few days a matka racket is being run by Mohhammad Usman Hazi along with his son Mohhammad Suleman and other associates in Kucha Chelan in Darya Ganj, Delhi.

Forces were deployed and information was found to be authentic and accordingly, a trap was laid and a decoy customer was sent to catch the accused red handed. A raid was conducted later and 21 persons who were found playing matka gambling in Kucha Chelan were apprehended. However, Mohhammad Usman Hazi managed to escape from the spot.

Those arrested were subjected to intensive interrogation and it was revealed that this gambling racket was being run by Mohhammad Usman Hazi, who is a known criminal for the last 30 years. Mohhammad Suleman had joined his father’s matka racket about six to seven months ago.

The racket led by Hazi had gambling dens  called Gali, Disawar, Taj, Faridabad and New Gali. The member of this racket would lure the gullible by offering 80 times profit.

‘The process of gambling would commence at 11 am and would go on even after midnight, winding up at around 3 am. This racket was operating in Delhi, NCR and Northern India including various towns of Haryana, UP, Punjab, Rajasthan,’ said a police official.

‘A 10 per cent commission was given to the agents and rest of the profit was kept by Mohhammad Usman Hazi,’ said a senior police official.
