Nitin Gadkari is the man behind every decision by the BJP in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. Below are edited excerpts from an interview with the senior BJP leader. Edited Excerpts:
The election campaign came to an end today. What is your perception on mood of voters in Delhi?
I travelled across the length and breadth of Delhi and covered almost every constituency besides directly monitoring the workers and their campaign. I feel the people of Delhi have made up their mind to defeat Congress and enthrone BJP.
What is different for BJP in this election which makes you hopeful for coming back into power?
We are united with our full strength. The enthusiasm of workers is at its peak. We projected our alternative positive agenda of good governance, exposed opposition parties and campaigned with our full capacity.
Congress has issued advertisements in some Urdu newspapers cautioning Muslims not to vote Narendra Modi lead BJP.
Congress is a multi-communal party. They mercilessly butchered Sikhs in Delhi in 1984 and are now provoking Muslims on the basis of a false and frivolous campaign. The always play the politics of divide and rule.
The minority front of BJP claims to garner some Muslim votes in Delhi. Do you find any substance in it?
Yes. Several Muslim intellectuals and clerics have already said that Congress is hell bent on looting Muslim votes by depicting a ‘false fear’ of Modi among their community. None of our governments in Madhya Pradesh, Chhatishgarh, Gujarat and Goa did any activities that were anti-Muslim. Congress is hitting below the belt. It always practises ‘use and throw’ politics with Muslims, which the community understands now. Â
In a survey published today, Aam Admi Party (AAP) has claimed 38-50 seats but have given you around 17 seats only?
Unki bahut meharbani (I am very thankful to them) (laughs). The bubble of AAP is going to burst on 8 December and truth will emerge.
What is your vision of your government in Delhi, if voted to power?
We will give a transparent and public-friendly government to Delhi. We will use the latest technology of e-governance to contain corruption and provide basic civic amenities to people.
