Cong candidate from Gautam Buddha Nagar joins BJP

Congress party’s Lok Sabha candidate from Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida and Greater Noida) Ramesh Chandra Tomar on Thursday joined Bharatiya Janata Party during Narendra Modi’s rally in Ghaziabad. Tomar vowed to ensure victory for BJP’s candidates in the region.

‘Ramesh Tomar is my old friend. He spurned the Congress party’s ticket to join BJP. I welcome him to the party,’ said Narendra Modi. As BJP’s prime ministerial candidate reached the stage, he first gave Tomar a warm hug before greeting other leaders present on the stage. ‘It’s crystal clear that General (Retired) VK Singh will win from Ghaziabad and Mahesh Sharma will do the same from Gautam Buddha Nagar (GBN). I will work to ensure a greater margin for both these candidates,’ said Tomar, and asked his supporters to devote their time to form a strong government in the centre.

‘We had never expected such behaviour from Tomar. He has deceived and ditched us. It is a first in the history of Congress party that such a candidate has ditched us,’ said Mozzam Khan, GBN
spokesperson of the Congress party. Party workers also burnt Tomar’s effigies and showed their anger by slapping his effigy with slippers.

Tomar was four-time BJP MP from Ghaziabad but switched to Congress in 2009, when BJP decided to pitch Rajnath Singh from Ghaziabad. Tomar contested on Congress ticket from GBN. After delimitation his village came under new seat of GBN but he lost the election. In 2009, Tomar came fourth after winner BSP, runner up BJP, and second runner up SP.
