How different is the new role that you have taken?
I was earlier involved with social work besides my profession of consultancy in architecture. Life has become quite busy and people are coming here with problems seeking solutions for them. I am trying my best to solve them.

What type of requests do you get largely?
People come here complaining about hospitals. Some are very poor and can’t afford expensive treatment, some complain about lack of facilities and some others complain about sanitation. Some groups and social activists also come to enquire into the cases of corruption.

How will you improve the health sector, given that the condition of hospitals in very pathetic?
I have also conducted surprise inspections of various government hospitals and there is a lot to do.
We have also been inviting suggestions from our volunteers and public in general besides doctors and professionals. We will soon draft a policy to overhaul the entire system.

...But can you outline the vision of your draft?
See, there are many issues which need to be addressed. For instance, a person had to take leave to get his relative treated in the hospital thus he get double setbacks on financial ground. His loses the pay for the day due to wastage of time and secondly he suffers due to mismanagement. We will try to address every issue in our policy for health sector.

In Delhi, poor people have to sell their blood. How will you check this tradition?
As per the information available with the department, Delhi meets 75 per cent blood requirement, rest 25 per cent blood is provided by blood sellers. We will promote blood donation in the city to bridge this gap.

What type of campaign will you launch?
I celebrated my victory as MLA by donating blood. I think people should celebrate their birthdays and marriage ceremonies by donating blood. If it happens, there will be drastic change. We are planning a detailed blood donation and organ donation campaign.

What is plan for industrial development in Delhi?
I think the policy on industrial development must be made after dialogue with various stakeholders. Today, I had a meeting with representatives of various industrial associations in the city. I have noted 51 suggestions, the officers have also noted some. We will now have three more meetings in various areas of the city covering all stakeholders to finalise a vibrant industrial policy for the city.

Have you made any suggestion to them?
I asked them to increase their production by 25 per cent and also generate 25 per cent more employment. They happily agreed to make it 50 per cent.

What about the welfare schemes for labourers working there?

It’s yet to be finalised. But they have agreed for accommodation to labourers near industrial areas.
