The state unit of the commission is going to launch a massive multimedia campaign on 24 October in the city to achieve the target by using a blend of modern and traditional mediums of mass communications such as Facebook, Twitter, folk media, street plays, road shows and SMSes.
‘We aim to achieve 65 to 70 per cent of voter turnout in this election. This will be a record of sorts in the history of Delhi,’ Vijay Dev, chief electoral officer (CEO) of Delhi told Millennium Post.
‘We have identified all those areas which led to lower voter turnout in previous elections and have worked out a detailed Systematic Voter’s Education Electoral Participation (SVEEP) action plan targeted,’ added Dev.
‘Mass outreach calender of activities has been prepared district wise. We will also unveil a slogan and icon on Thursday,’ he added.
The election commission is focussing on first time voters, women, resident welfare associations and group housing societies to increase its poll percentage.
The poll percentage in 2008 Delhi assembly election was 58.75 per cent, while around 55 per cent electorates cast their votes in 2012 MCD elections.
