CBSE offers course that includes career options in armed forces

In a first of its kind initiative, the challenges of a satisfying career in the armed forces will be taught to the students of Class XI and XII, as part of a compulsory subject termed General Foundation Course offered by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to all schools affiliated to it.

A senior official of CBSE said, ‘We are offering a compulsory subject called General Foundation for all the students in classes XI and XII. This will create awareness among students in current affairs and general knowledge, including prospective future career options.

‘The schools will also expose students to lessons in a challenging and satisfying career in the Armed Forces under General Foundation Course. ‘Schools may visit the official websites of Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy for motivational material in this regard. CBSE has earmarked two periods per week for this compulsory subject.’

NCERT officials on conditions of anonymity said, ‘The National Council of Educational Research and Training has also published a supplementary book titled The Indian Army-A-Glorious heritage. The book contains motivational, as well as informative write up for students across age groups.

‘The supplementary book is eye catching with a view to attract young students to serve in armed forces as a career option.’
