With a ‘pro-people’ budget for the citizens of Delhi presented in Parliament on Friday, the BJP seems to have decided to wait for its effect before taking a chance for government formation in the city-state. Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhayay on Friday indicated that for the time being efforts to cobble up the numbers have been put on hold.
‘Ham chahte hain ki chunao jaldi ho jaye, e sari atkalein khatam ho jayen (We want a fresh election in the city at the earliest to end the political uncertainty),’ said Satish Upadhayay on Friday, adding he has not received any call or invitation from the Lieutenant Governor’s office.
‘I am fully prepared for the elections. We have finalised our election strategy for all 70 assembly segments of the city and confident that BJP would get a decisive majority,’ he added. When asked if he would pressurise the central government for early elections, Upadhayay replied, ‘The responsibility to hold fresh elections lies with LG Najeeb Jung and Election Commission and both the constitutional bodies have autonomous status to take impartial decisions,’ he argued.
Upadhayay added that if the LG sends invite he would consult his party leaders, MLAs and MPs and convey his decision which could be either Yes or No, depending on the situation. ‘In the present situation, election seems to be the only option as we don’t believe in horse trading,’ he added. The city BJP chief also challenged AAP to conduct ‘sting’ of the leaders who are engaged in house trading and produce evidence.
