‘We will sweep the rural belt of the national capital city. As per our internal post-poll survey the party has lead on 17-18 out of 25 seats where the rural population lives,’ said a senior BJP leader. ‘The party had hardly managed three seats in this area in 2008 assembly elections but this time the situation has been reversed,’ he added.
These rural seats fall in the north-west, west and Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituencies. In 2008 assembly elections, Congress had swept the village areas securing 20 out of 30 assembly seats from these three areas. The BJP had managed eight in its kitty, while on two seats Independents had proved their might. Out of these 20 seats, BJP is hopeful of wresting power on 16 from the ruling Congress.
According to sources in the BJP, in 2013 election the tally of BJP and Congress is going to get reversed as compared with the 2008 results.
The BJP has lead on two more seats - Burai and Timarpur, which are of rural nature but fall in north-east Delhi parliamentary constituency.
Similarly, out of 10 seats in New Delhi parliamentary constituencies, the Congress had secured six seats in 2008 while four seats were with the BJP. Here too while it is clearly going to retain three seats, BJP is giving a neck-to-neck fight at five seats to the Congress. As the seat of Delhi chief minister is too vulnerable, the BJP may bag more than half the seats from this region. In south Delhi parliamentary constituency too there are strong changes of a reversal of votes of 2008 when the Congress had five seats in its kitty while the BJP had only four seats.
But on east and north-east parliamentary seats which fall in trans-Yamuna area, BJP is struggling to maintain the tally of 2008. As two seats of east Delhi parliamentary - Okhla and Jangpura fall in south Delhi district, the area has 16 assembly seats. Out of these 16 seats, Congress had 10 seats in 2008, while five were with the BJP and one with the BSP. ‘This time too BJP will get five-six seats in this area,’ said a senior BJP leader of east Delhi after compiling his calculations.
Out of 10 seats of east Delhi, BJP had secured only two seats while it won on three out of eight in
north-east region. According to sources, the tally is likely to be same as BJP is getting some more seats but is unable to retain previous seats.
