BJP’s master plan for polls: Shah’s supervising panel

According to sources, the national president of BJP Amit Shah has recommended to form the panel comprising of select Union Ministers, MPs and senior party leaders for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called a meeting on Saturday.

‘Shah is irked with state leadership as some leaders have already started lobbying to get tickets for their supporters in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. He wants a panel having all powers from taking a final call on ticket distribution to devising campaign strategies to implementing it,’ said a senior party leader of the BJP.

The national president is also apparently of the view that it is important to bring all groups under one umbrella, incorporating them under the ‘Modi magic’ and ensuring that all powers are exercised by the Central leadership and the supervising panel.

In the meeting on Saturday, Modi has summoned main office bearers of the Delhi unit, heads of the morchas, MPs, select MLAs and councillors. Besides, Harsh Vardhan, who is also an MP in the city, the party has already deployed two more Union Ministers — Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State (Independent charge) Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi (Minister of State for Minority Affairs) for election management in the national Capital.

According to sources, Delhi BJP presently has at least six groups — the first is led by Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay, second by former Delhi BJP president and MP Vijay Goel, third by Union minister for Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan, fourth by senior-most MLA Jagdish Mukhi, fifth by former Delhi leader of opposition V K Malhotra and sixth of Jats united by West Delhi MP Pravesh Verma, son of former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma.

These groups have their patrons in Central leadership also. In the last assembly elections, Delhi BJP along with its ally Akali Dal got 32 seats, just four short of majority, but this time the party does not want any stone unturned and aims to achieve a comfortable majority on its own.
