PM Modi meets US NSA Michael Waltz, Elon Musk ahead of talks with President Trump

Washington DC/New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi described his meeting with US National Security Advisor (NSA) Michael Waltz as “fruitful,” highlighting key discussions on defence, technology, and security—critical pillars of the India-US strategic partnership.
“Had a fruitful meeting with NSA @michaelgwaltz. He has always been a great friend of India,” Modi posted on X. “Defence, technology, and security are important aspects of India-USA ties, and we had a wonderful discussion around these issues. There is strong potential for cooperation in sectors like AI, semiconductors, space, and more.”
The meeting, which took place on Thursday, was the first engagement on Modi’s packed schedule ahead of his high-profile discussions with US President Donald Trump. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were also present.
Following his talks with Waltz, Modi met Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk at Blair House, the President’s Guest House. Musk, who arrived with his three children, engaged in discussions on cutting-edge technology and innovation.
“Had a very good meeting with Elon Musk in Washington DC. We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about, such as space, mobility, technology, and innovation. I talked about India’s efforts towards reform and furthering ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance,’” Modi said in another post on X.
Later, Modi held discussions with US Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard, who had taken her oath of office just hours earlier in the presence of President Trump. “Congratulated her on her confirmation.
Discussed various aspects of the India-USA friendship, of which she’s always been a strong votary,” Modi wrote.
In addition, Modi met Indian-American entrepreneur and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. Their discussions focused on India’s growing role in global technology and economic spheres.
Modi’s visit to Washington DC marks a crucial moment in India-US relations. On Friday, he is set to hold a delegation-level meeting with President Trump and key members of his Cabinet at the White House. The leaders will discuss a wide range of issues, including trade, security, and
technological cooperation, followed by a joint press conference and a state dinner hosted by Trump.
The talks are being closely watched as India aims to navigate Trump’s protectionist stance and potential tariff concerns while strengthening strategic and economic ties with the US. with agency inputs
