Bengal’s Hilsa fever

As monsoons flood the city streets, it’s time Kolkatans enjoy the much-awaited delicacy of the season. Whether or not you’re a fish lover, it doesn’t affect your choices when it comes to Hilsa or Ilish Machh. For easy access and mouth-watering varieties, Spencer’s Retail limited, an RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group company, has organized a 10-day long Hilsa festival at its ten Kolkata-based stores.

It is staggeringly difficult to come across a Bengali who wouldn’t go an extra step ahead to get Ilish Machh and eat it with relish. So, visiting your nearby spencers to experience the best of the best is imperative.

All the outlets will be offering a wide choice of Hilsa from nine different centres at the most competitive prices. Besides getting to buy Hilsa brought from Raidighi, Diamond Harbour, Kasafal, Chandipur and Dhamra among others, special arrangements have been made to deliver the best varieties from Myanmar.

Nitu Jaiswal, Vice President - Marketing said while Hilsa picked from Raidighi and Diamond Harbour
are exceptional in terms of taste, Kolaghat Hilsa unfortunately remains less available.  She recommends on buying fresh Myanmar Hilsa because it is as appetizing as other varieties collected from renowned centres.

“Of special attraction is super-size Hilsa (2.5 kg). As an incentive for buying Hilsa weighing 1 kg and above, there is the offer of 1 Ltr Emami mustard oil free, which has an MRP of Rs.135,” she adds.

Not only in terms of taste, Spencers have also met customers’ expectations in terms of pricing. As Hilsa prices are still not within the reach of every customer, it is offering a unique mini-pack Hilsa (2 pieces) at Rs 50, so that anyone planning to buy the fish could do so without hesitation. However, this will be on first come first serve basis due to high demand, said Dharm Chaturvedi, National Head of Spencer’s Fish and Meat business.

This festival not only caters to the craving of Hilsa lovers but also to people who prefer other varieties of fishes like Rui, Katla, Pabda, Bhetki, Tilapia, Tangra, Parshe, Aar, Boyal, Chital, Gurjali and Pomfrets. There will be several varieties of Galda chingri, Prawn and Shrimps as well.

“Spencer’s outlets are offering the widest range of quality fish at an attractive price and right weight. The convenience of complimentary cleaning and cutting is an additional attraction,” says  Aniruddha Banerjee, Business Manager, East.

The group is looking forward to a record-breaking sale of different yet affordable varieties of fishes
during this ten-day festival.
