Tilting buildings spark panic in Baguiati, Rajarhat
Kolkata: Following incidents of apartment buildings getting tilted and leaning towards each other in Baghajatin and Tangra, similar incidents occurred in the Jagatpur area in Baguiati and Narayanpur area in Rajarhat triggering panic among the residents.
Mayor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Krishna Chakraborty assured of necessary actions according to the law. She said: “People’s safety is our first priority. Actions will be taken as per the municipal act.”
According to sources, a tilting building in the Jagatpur area in ward number 23 of BMC was spotted on Wednesday. Local councillor Jhunku Mondal was informed by the local residents. After inspecting the affected building, she informed the Mayor.
Later, an engineer was sent to the spot for an enquiry. Chakraborty informed that a notice would be served to the persons responsible. Also, the plan and other details will be checked as well.
Apart from Jagatpur, a similar incident was reported from Ward number 3, in Narayanpur of Rajarhat. It was alleged that a five-storied building had tilted several months ago.
Sources informed that BMC has already taken action and a demolition order is likely to be published soon. At present the occupants are arranging places for themselves to reside.
