BALURGHAT: Buniadpur Municipality has taken a significant step towards ensuring road safety by planning to construct footpaths along both sides of the roads. This decision follows a series of road accidents in the area, which raised concerns about wpedestrian safety.

Recent incidents, including the tragic death of a schoolteacher in a road accident near the new bus stand, have prompted this initiative.

According to municipal sources, footpaths will be constructed along the 512 National Highway and the 10 State Highway. The stretch will cover areas from Motor Kali Temple to Buniadpur Choupathi on the state highway and both sides of the national highway. A meeting regarding this project has already been held with the Gangarampur Sub-Divisional Officer and senior officials of national and state highways.

Speaking to the press, Kamal Sarkar stated: “Buniadpur is rapidly developing into a larger town, leading to increased public movement. The absence of designated footpaths on the 512 National Highway and the 10 State Highway has resulted in frequent accidents. To address this, we have decided to construct footpaths on both sides of these roads.”

He further mentioned: “We have conducted inspections of the concerned areas along with the Sub-Divisional Officer, PWD engineers and other officials. The Sub-Divisional Officer has approved our proposal. Soon, footpaths and dividers will be built to ensure road safety. This proactive approach by the municipality is expected to significantly reduce accidents and make the roads safer for pedestrians.”
