Mamata suffers ‘major’ head injury after ‘fall due to push from behind’

Kolkata: Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday suffered a major injury in an accident.
She was taken to the state-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata. Banerjee was released from the hospital late on Thursday evening after treatment.
According to hospital sources, Banerjee skidded and hit her head on a piece of furniture at her home, shortly after she returned from an event in South Kolkata’s Ballygunge. Her sister-in-law and nephews who were at home immediately rushed her to the SSKM.
SSKM director, Manimoy Bandopadhyay, said that Banerjee was taken to the hospital at 7.30 pm after she had suffered injuries following a fall at her home caused due to a push from behind. CT scan, Echocardiogram and doppler tests were performed on her. Banerjee was urged to remain at the hospital but she preferred to go home. Three stitches were applied on her forehead and one on her nose. Her health condition will be reviewed on Friday.
Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had rushed her to the hospital. She was taken to the Woodburn Ward. A special team was formed at the hospital for her treatment.
She was then taken to Bangur Institute of Neurology where several tests were performed. As her health condition was stated to be stable, she was released from the hospital.
Soon after the incident, TMC said that its party chief Mamata Banerjee sustained a “major injury”. The news was shared on the party’s social media handle, accompanied by an image showing Banerjee bleeding from her forehead. “Our chairperson @MamataOfficial sustained a major injury. Please keep her in your prayers,” the All India Trinamool Congress wrote in its post on X.
Reacting to the news on social media platform X, several politicians and leaders from across the country, including the Opposition parties expressed their shock and extended wishes for the speedy recovery of Banerjee. TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray shared that Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar has inquired about Mamata’s health following the injury.
“Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankar has inquired about the health of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Ms Mamata Banerjee, expressing his deep anguish and wishing speedy recovery,” Sukhendu Sekhar Ray wrote.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote: “Shocked to see this. Pray for ur speedy recovery Didi. God bless u.” Former Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu wrote: “Wishing West Bengal Chief Minister, @MamataOfficial Ji, a speedy recovery. May she regain her health soon.”
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin wrote: “Shocked and deeply concerned about the road accident involving Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal @MamataOfficial didi. My thoughts are with her during this difficult time, and I’m wishing her a speedy recovery.”
Former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti wrote on X: “Distressed to see pictures of an injured Mamata Banerjee after sustaining serious injuries today. Prayers for her swift recovery.”
Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar extended his wishes for Banerjee’s speedy recovery. “Wishing CM @MamataOfficial a speedy recovery. Our prayers are with her for a quick return to good health…,” Sukanta wrote.
