Major fire guts factory at Domjur

Kolkata: A major fire broke out at a factory godown at Domjur Howrah on Sunday morning. Nine fire tenders doused the flames after almost five hours. No injury reported.
According to sources, around 10:15 am on Sunday, at the said factory located near the Pakuria bridge, rope manufacturing work was ongoing when workers saw smoke coming out from the godown of the factory. The labourers and officials were informed and the factory was evacuated. The labourers and local residents tried to douse the flames but failed.
Meanwhile, the police and fire brigade were informed. Initially, five fire tenders were pressed into action. Later, four more fire tenders were added to the fleet. Due to the dry weather, the fire spread quickly and subsequently gutted the factory. Once it was doused, fire brigade officials conducted a preliminary enquiry but failed to identify the cause.
However, fire fighters reportedly informed that there was no fire fighting system installed nor any water reservoir was there. A detailed probe will ascertain whether the factory had all the necessary licences and permissions from the competent authorities or not.
