Kolkata: The state Transport department has requested the private bus and minibus operators to ensure late night bus services for people attending World Cup Cricket matches, which are going to take place at Eden Gardens on October 28, October 31, November 5, November 11 and November 16.

“In view of the above, you are hereby requested to take necessary measures to ensure availability of sufficient public transport for smooth transportation of the spectators on those dates till 10:45 pm,” the notification to private bus and minibus operators stated.

The ICC ODI Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 started from October 5. Matches have been taking place in ten cities of India, including Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Lucknow, Dharamshala, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Kolkata.

Since the authorities expect crowding on the match days, sufficient arrangements are being made to ensure it goes smoothly. According to a news agency, the Kolkata Police are devising elaborate security measures. In September, Kolkata Police conducted a meeting with the representatives of ten countries, briefing them on the preparatory measures for the World Cup cricket matches. According to police sources, the representatives of the foreign countries asked about the steps taken by the police for the security of their citizens.

On behalf of the Kolkata Police, Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal assured the representatives that they have made several plans for the safety of the foreign nationals. Also, he informed them about the dos and don’ts to be followed when they would arrive in the city.
