‘Arrested youth a Bangladesh nat’l’
Kolkata: The youth arrested on Monday night from the Madhyamgram Police Station area for allegedly obtaining a passport using forged documents is a Bangladeshi national and had entered India in 2021 through the Indo-Bangla border in Assam.
According to police, the arrested youth who introduced himself as Palash Biswas had impersonated before applying for the passport.
His original name is Chayan Barua, a resident of Coxbazar in Bangladesh. Police also informed that Barua had entered India in 2021 through the Indo-Bangla border in Assam.
Since then the youth had worked and lived in several states including Delhi. Chennai and Kolkata. In Bengal, he had rented a house in Ganganagar and was staying there.
It may be mentioned that Barua is one of the 73 persons who obtained Indian passports using fake documents.
Barua was asked to appear at Madhyamgram Police Station for passport-related queries. He was grilled when he came. Initially, he allegedly tried to mislead the investigating officers and did not divulge anything.
Later, he was arrested by the Kolkata Police officials who interrogated him. Police, however, issued lookout circulars for those who had obtained the passports using fake documents.
