BJP is likely to give a last minute surprise to prominent Jat leader and younger brother of former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma, Azad Singh, who still has hopes of getting a ticket from Mundka assembly segment.
‘The talk with Nitin Gadkari was positive and the final decision is likely to be announced on 15 November, a day before the last date of filing the nomination papers,’ Azad Singh told Millennium Post.
On Wednesday, election in-charge of Delhi BJP Nitin Gadkari confronted both — Singh and sitting MLA from Mundka Manoj Shokeen. Singh had earlier sent his resignation from the post of North DMC mayor to party’s national president Rajnath Singh as a pressure tactics to force the party to change Shokeen’s nomination from Mundka assembly segment from where he is seeking party’s ticket projecting himself as the true heir of his elder brother in the Jat community.
‘Both Shokeen and Singh were present at the inauguration of election office of Pravesh Verma, son of Sahib Singh Verma, who has been nominated by the party Mehrauli. Gadkari took both of them in his car and counselled them to sort out the issue,’ said a senior leader claiming to have be present at the function.
Shokeen who considers himself close to former Delhi chief minister had agreed to vacate the seat for his son but not for Azad Singh.
However, as Pravesh Verma filed his nomination papers on Wednesday there is no possibility of his moving to the Mundka seat. ‘I am contesting from here and have filed my papers today,’ said Verma.
Shokeen has been directed not to file his nomination papers till the issue is sorted out, sources said.
