AIIMS to build integrated complex for OPD, diagnostics and emergency services

Witnessing the rapidly increasing number of patients visiting All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the management has decided to build an integrated complex for the Out Patient Department (OPD), the emergency ward and the diagnostic block.

‘Considering the number of people who prefer to take treatment at AIIMS, the infrastructural developments are necessary. The OPD and emergency wards are being expanded. Also, in a large number of cases, patients go to other places for diagnosis and they have to wait for days to get their reports. In that regard, a new diagnostic block is also in the master plan,’ said Amit Gupta, spokesperson of AIIMS.

In the master plan which has been sanctioned by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), an integrated complex of OPD, emergency services, mother and child block, surgical and diagnostic block is proposed to be created. Further, two smaller blocks for hospital services can be accommodated and a service block for institutional facilities is proposed as well, according to data available from AIIMS.
‘The new OPD block will have 570 rooms which will be able to cater to a load of 6,500 persons per day against the present load of 3500 persons per day.

‘There will be 800-1000 seating on each OPD floor. The proposal has been approved for Rs 573 crore,’ said an official.

He further said, the mother and child block will be having a total of 475 beds and the proposed emergency ward will be having approx of 330 beds.
