AAP working hard to win upcoming Delhi polls: Soni

Former Delhi labour minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Girish Soni talks to SUNIL THAPLIYAL in an exclusive interview on how the AAP has regained the faith of Delhiites after losing Lok Sabha elections last year. He said AAP is working hard to win the upcoming election.

As a political party what lessons AAP has learnt so far from its previous mistakes?
No doubt we had committed some mistakes. We were new in the politics and none of us were having the political background, while our opponents are master in politics. We were trapped in their web as we did not ask for any support from Congress but they forced us to form the government after last year assembly election. Later we quit the government which was also a big mistake. However now we are well aware to deal with any of such political moves of any of our opponents.

How do you convince the people to vote for AAP again as your opponents have been accusing AAP of running away from the responsibilities?
People will vote for us, they know that we had reduced the price of electricity 50 per cent and had given the free water (almost 700 litres a day) to all the families in Delhi. We also made Delhi almost corruption free. People will vote for us as Arvind Kejriwal is the only hope for them. Both BJP and Congress are scared of AAP and playing the dirty politics. We were not running away from our responsibility, we quit to get the full mandate but unfortunately out decision had gone against us. However people are now aware that it was the trick of BJP and Congress to delay the election in Delhi.

Don’t you think this election will be tougher for AAP this time compared to last 2013 assembly election?
Election is always tough for all the political parties, however, for us this election means another opportunity to serve the people. Things will be different for us as BJP has come to the power in Centre and Congress has lost its ground completely in Delhi. There will be a direct fight between BJP and AAP and Congress is almost going to be wiped out from Delhi. We will face tough fight from BJP.

As AAP has given ticket to 38 new candidates in Delhi and several AAP leaders have left the parties, don’t you think it will affect the image of your party?
Not at all, AAP is having a mission to change the current political system, people come and go but party will move towards it mission. Honest and dedicated people who wish to serve the nation will certainly come to support AAP.

What will be your top agenda for Delhi election apart from electricity and water?
Women safety, good mode of public transport, better health facilities and corruption free Delhi will be our top agenda.
