The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday, alleged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh of “lying” in the Lok Sabha and misleading people towards giving clean chit to Delhi Police and blaming AAP and its volunteers for the farmer’s suicide on Wednesday during the party’s rally at Jantar Mantar. The party also charged the Central government for using Delhi Police as a “tool” to target AAP.
“The Home Minister is lying and giving misleading statements. It is the Union government’s ploy to target AAP using the Delhi Police. Media recorded the incident as it happened and should put out the tapes in public to establish the truth,” said Sanjay Singh, senior AAP leader.
“You must have seen that we were requesting the police to rescue him. Please show the truth as to whether or not we were inciting anyone. At least, accept the truth on the floor of the House,” said senior AAP leader Kumar Vishwas. The party parried questions on reports that the farmer was invited by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to the rally, saying that the Delhi government had already ordered a magisterial inquiry into the case. “On Wednesday, it was announced that magisterial inquiry would be initiated in the case. The Delhi Police has refused to cooperate and the inquiry will take that into account,” said Singh.
Meanwhile, the Home Minister, in his statement in the Lok Sabha, suggested that the police took prompt steps to tackle the situation by calling the police control room and ordering help from the fire brigade to bring him down from the tree. “Crowd was clapping. Police requested them to stop raising slogans. Generally, such people (who try to end lives) are engaged in talks to turn their mind but here the crowd kept clapping and raising slogans,” he said, responding to an impromptu debate on the matter in Lok Sabha.
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Sena on Thursday vented out their anger at AAP leader Somnath Bharti
as they threw ink on him. They were protesting against the death of the farmer who died on Wednesday.
Rs 10-Lakh compensation for deceased farmer
The AAP on Thursday announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the Rajasthan farmer who hanged himself at the party rally on Wednesday. The party will send a delegation to Dausa to meet deceased farmer Gajendra Singh’s family. The party also promised to support his children’s education. The party said that a party delegation led by Sanjay Singh will visit the native village of the farmer in Rajasthan’s Dausa on Friday. Gajendra’s sacrifice won’t go in vain, said Kumar Vishwas. Earlier, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had issued a statement on the farmer’s suicide saying: “Loss of life of this farmer in distress is an extremely sad incident. Delhi government does not wish to engage in any blame game on this terrible tragedy and no words can fulfil the irreparable loss caused to Gajendra’s family. We will do everything to find out how such an incident took place in full public view.” Meanwhile, deceased farmer Gajendra Singh has been cremated in his native village of Nangal Jhamarwada, in Rajasthan’s Dausa district.
