Even after penalising over 5,000 people this year till now, men continue to board the women’s compartment in metro, especially on the violet line.
According to records of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), 5,105 men have been fined so far this year, from 1 January to 9 August. Of the total figure, as many as 1,281 men were fined in month of July for travelling in women’s compartment. ‘During the night, almost half of the women compartment is crowded with men. I have tried calling the helpline but it was unreachable,’ complained Ankita, who uses violent line daily to commute to her office.
Surprisingly, the CISF officials are not even aware about the apathy of the women. ‘We are not aware about it. We try hard to deploy a lady officer in women’s coach. It’s not possible every time, but we will have more checks to see to it’, said a CISF spokesperson.
