4 children of prison inmates enrolled in IVF programme this year

This year, four kids of prison inmates were taken from the Bhondsi jail (Haryana) by the India Vision Foundation to provide them with quality care and nurturing. Out of the four, there was one boy and three girls who were first enrolled in prison’s day care centre.

After the age of six, children are not permitted to stay within prison premises and remain prone to deprivation on being away from their parents. At present, there are around 10 children out of the total population of 2,100 inmates in Bhondsi prison and the population keeps on fluctuating. “For such children, we facilitate formal boarding and education in public, government and missionary schools, and also help them develop their physical, cognitive and emotional needs, said Monica Dhawan, Director of the NGO.

There are over 80 children from various jails in Haryana, who are entitled to home support programme.

The aforementioned five children are around 3-5 years old with the mothers of a couple of them having been sentenced to life imprisonment. These children are taken to their mothers for a mother-child interaction session every three months.

These kids are enrolled in one of the four private schools in NCR that are associated with the organisation. A data reveals that around 40-50 children every year are made self-employed under the organisation from across all jails in Haryana.
