30-yr-old from Manipur assaulted in Ggn

In yet another incident of violence against people from North-East, a group of men in Gurgaon brutally assaulted a 30-year-old man from Manipur late on Tuesday.

According to the police, Lal Bruce Thangkhal, the media in-charge of North East Support Centre and Helpline (NESCH) in Gurgaon, suffered serious injuries and received 15 stitches on his head. Doctors said that when Bruce was brought to the hospital both his eyes were swollen and there could be a fracture in right arm too. The accused, however, are yet to be identified.

According to the police, the incident took place around 8 pm on Tuesday evening while Bruce was returning from a Christmas party in Chakarpur village. “I was walking down, when a few men without any reason started passing lewd remarks and they were in a drunken state. When I objected, they abused and assaulted me out of frustration. I was pushed on the road and I fell unconscious,” said Bruce.

More than 100 NESCH members from across the National Capital Region rushed to the hospital and met the deputy Commissioner of Police on Wednesday after which an FIR was registered against four unidentified persons.

“We have formed the teams and are conducting the investigation. The accused are yet not identified. We will take prompt action and a case under relevant Sections of the IPC has been registered,” DCP (East) and nodal officer of N-E Deepak Saharan said.
