3-yr-old girl hit with rod on the head, teacher booked

In a case of corporal punishment, a playschool teacher was booked on Thursday for allegedly thrashing a three-year-old child. The police have registered a case against the teacher and the accused is currently absconding. The initial level of investigation by the police revealed that the child, who was hit in the head by the teacher, has a deep wound/cut which was later verified in the police’s medical test.

Sources reveal that the victim was attending Gayatri Vidya Mandir School in Maruti Kunj area for the last four months. She was currently studying in kindergarten.

The incident came to light, when the mother of the child on Wednesday afternoon, noticed a blood clot and a deep cut on the child’s head after she returned from school. On asking her about the cut, the child narrated the incident where the girl told her mother that a teacher named Maya hit her with the rod.

It was also revealed that the woman and her mother-in-law went to school on Thursday to confront the teacher about the incident.

However, Maya said she was actually hitting another child but accidentally the victim got hurt. The parents also alleged that the teacher and the school authorities did not even provide first aid to the bleeding child and sent her home without any bandage.

As per law, corporal punishment is a crime and a teacher is not supposed to hit any child.

Following this, the victim’s family lodged a complaint at Bhondsi police station. A case has been registered under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
