3 AI crew members abused by drunk passenger onboard Melbourne flight

The accused is said to have boarded the flight from Melbourne and was scheduled to land in Delhi. During the two hours in flight he used abusive language and got physical with the crew members.

According to the FIR, the incident took place on flight AI 301 on Wednesday. The accused, Ritesh Choudhary, boarded the flight from Melbourne. After it was airborne for Delhi, Choudhary got aggressively abusive and physical with the crew members, identified as  Arjun Sharma and Tushar Ingle. He also punched Ingle badly and physically assaulted a third crew member Mayank Choubey when he and his colleague Gaurav Saroha tried to intervene to stop Choudhary.

Keeping in view his aggressive and abusive behaviour, two crew members were deputed especially so that he could not harm the fellow passengers for the rest of the flight.

Choudhary consumed three glasses of red wine and thereafter got aggressive and started obstructing the crew members from full filing their duties.

The flight pilot immediately raised an alarm with Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) and also appraised the security agency CISF about the incident.

A team comprising Delhi Police, CISF and Air India security officials reached the runway. When the flight landed at IGI, Delhi Police arrested the accused, according to an airport official.

Delhi Police has registered a case under IPC Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341(punishment for wrongful restraint).

According to the police, the accused is a Delhi-based businessman. He went to Melbourne for a business trip.
