28-yr-old mother in JNU poll fray

She is contesting for the post of councilor under the banner of Students Federation of India (SFI).

A student of M. Phil. at the School of International Studies, Gunjan Priya, said, ‘As a mother and a married woman, I seek to raise the issue of married couples living in hostels and the problems they face.’

Gunjan Priya did her Bachelors in Geography from Miranda House and then did her Masters from Delhi School of Economics.

‘The first thing on my agenda will be to build more hostels for married couples, because there are many such couple scholars who are facing the problem of accommodation. The hostels which had been built for married couples are occupied by the staff of the university illegally,’
said Priya.

‘My next agenda is to ensure that the fellowship of female students during their maternity period is not stopped.  I feel this is the most crucial period for a woman scholar and stopping fellowship amounts to harassment. Lastly, there is this demand to increase the scholarship for M. Phil. students,’ added Priya.
