233 held with fake travel documents since Apr 2013

The records of Delhi police have revealed that 248 cases of illegal departure and arrival were reported from Delhi’s IGI airport between 1 April, 2013 and 26 September, 2014.
Out of total 248 cases, only 26 have been convicted while the investigation is still pending in 171 cases. The trial is also due in 50 cases.
A total of 233 persons were arrested during the same period. ‘There are numbers of incidents where people were detained or arrested for allegedly carrying fake or tampered passport’, said a police officer requesting anonymity.
Recently, at the arrival wing of immigration, a man, identified as Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Hoshiarpur in Punjab, arrived by flight from Bangkok. During the scrutiny of his passport and travel documents, it was found that his visa was fake.
On further questioning, he revealed that his visa was arranged by one Billa, by paying 1,000 Ringgit (Malaysian currency) in Malaysia, the officer added. Police filed a case of forgery and cheating under sections 420, 467, 468, 471 of IPC against him.
