Police probing the murder of a city-based real estate developer's wife suspect the role of persons known to the family in the crime as the house where she was found murdered was not broken into.

Cash and valuables worth about Rs 1.9 crore were stolen from the house.

According to the police, Chetna (51), wife of Jayant Ajmera, was found murdered at her residence in Vaishali apartment near Vikrant circle on the 60 Feet Road at Pantnagar in suburban Ghatkopar around 9 pm on Monday.

Jayant returned from office and found his wife, with her neck slit, lying in a pool of blood near the sofa in the hall.

The murder was reported to have taken place between 4 pm and 5 pm on Monday.

For the past few days, repair and renovation work was underway at Ajmera's residence and the workers involved in this job have come under scanner, police said.

'Since there was no forced entry into the house, it is clear that the person known to the family was involved in the crime. Diamond-studded gold ornaments worth Rs 1.4 crore and Rs 50,000 in cash and were stolen from the house,' said a police officer.
