The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday said it will utilise the 12,000 odd Home Guards to provide safety and security to women in the national Capital if they come to the power.
The party said that Home Guards come under the Delhi government and it will deploy around 44 Home Guards in every single ward in the Capital. There are 272 wards in Delhi. The party said it will empower the Home Guards to deal with such issues.
“When AAP was in power in Delhi for 49 days, we had given our proposal to constitute a special citizen force for women. However, soon after our government lost power, no development has been taken in this regard,” said Manish Sisodia, senior AAP leader.
“The police are not under the Delhi government but the party is considering to empower Home Guards in the best possible manner to restore faith and ensure security for women in the Capital. But this will be possible only when our government comes to power. We have decided to give them more powers and authority to maintain the law and order situation in the city and they will work with the Delhi Police as well, if needed,” said a senior AAP leader on condition of anonymity.
“With having such dedicated force, women will feel safe. Wards have a limited area and in case of any emergency, they will be able to attend to any complaint within few minutes. The Home Guards, who will be deployed at particular areas, will assist the complainant immediately. They will be well-equipped as per requirement. They will be available on 24x7 round the year,” he added.
