BJP’s chief ministerial candidate has promised a clean and efficient government after coming to power in the national capital. Harsh Vardhan has assured that his government will honour the Supreme Court order dated 31 October on giving bureaucracy freedom from political pressure and provide an honest, clean and transparent administration.
On the issue of providing a fixed tenure to bureaucrats, Vardhan said: ‘I endorse the Supreme Court’s view on a fixed tenure for bureaucrats. We will implement the SC order in letter and spirit to ensure they work as per law without any undue political pressure.’
The chief ministerial candidate said Delhi will become the first state in the country where IAS and other senior bureaucrats shall have complete freedom to work and take decisions in the interest of the people if the BJP was voted to power.
The Supreme Court’s order had come in the wake of cases of IAS officers Ashok Khemka and Durga Shakti Nagpal and the way in which ministers played a role in the Muzaffarnagar riots by issuing verbal orders to police officers and bureaucrats.
The Supreme Court has advised all bureaucrats not to obey oral orders. ‘If compliance of any order is very necessary then the officer should note down that verbal order in a file so that it may be recorded for future reference,’ SC had said. SC had also said that bureaucrats should have fixed tenures so that they can discharge their duties honestly. Vardhan said bureaucrats are deputed for serving the people only after proper training.
