Feeling the heat? Rohit may take up issue of curbs on family travel with BCCI secy

New Delhi: To impose a ban of sorts on players’ family from travelling along citing poor form is a bit weird. And that was something Rohit Sharma pointed out, although not directly, when he spoke at the press conference on Saturday after the ICC Champions Trophy squad selection. Even before presser began, Rohit was speaking to chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Not realising the microphone was on, Rohit mentioned an important topic, how restricting wives’ travel abroad had become like a disconcerting bounce on a tricky pitch. He was heard saying: “I will have to sit down with the secretary to discuss about family (travel guidelines). Everyone (players) is asking me”.

Although Agarkar has made it clear that it’s not a “punishment, in no sport is there a ban like this. After all, players are mature and can deal with performance and spend some family time.

Rohit made it clear he had been getting calls from teammates on how and why wives should not be travelling abroad. The skipper will have a chat on this with the BCCI secretary. It is clear Rohit is concerned about what his players tell him and what they communicate.
