Speculation over Delhi Cabinet’s new faces starts

Update: 2013-12-24 23:44 GMT
Kejriwal’s close friend and member of AAP’s national executive Manish Sisodia is most likely to become the number two in the new Cabinet. Sisodia, a 41-year-old former journalist who came under limelight in the Jan Lokpal movement, defeated Nakul Bhardwaj of BJP by 11,478 votes from Patparganj. He holds a diploma in journalism and was born in a Rajput family in Hapur district in Uttar Pradesh.

Delhi University professor and member of Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) Harish Khanna, who is AAP MLA from Timarpur, is most likely to become the education minister.

The next in the list is technocrat turned lawyer turned politician, Somnath Bharti. Presently MLA from Malviya Nagar assembly seat, Bharti pursued a degree in law after doing his Masters in science from IIT-Delhi. The 39-year-old was also president of the IIT-Delhi alumni association. Another engineer Saurabh Bhardwaj, who pursued engineering from a private college affiliated to Guri Govind Singh Indraprastha (GGSIP) University and MLA from Greater Kailash, is also in the race.

If AAP decides to pick up any experienced politician for the cabinet berth, Vinod Kumar Binny will be the first option. Binny, elected from Laxmi Nagar in east Delhi, is a graduate from Delhi University. He defeated Delhi health minister AK Walia by around 8,000 votes. He was a member of the Congress from 2009 to 2011 but left it after joining the Jan Lokpal movement.

The Sikh face of the party Jarnail Singh , MLA from Tilak Nagar, is most likely to get entry in the cabinet as minority face as AAP doesn’t have any Muslim MLA.

Akhilesh Pati Tripathi, MLA from Model Town may get in the cabinet because of being a Poorvanchali and face of the common man. Tripathi came to the city as a civil services aspirant but joined Jan Lokpal movement later.

The party will also pick one of the three women MLAs - Rakhi Birla from Mangolpuri, Bandana Kumari from Shalimar Bagh and Beena Anand from Patel Nagar, in the cabinet.
