Neetu Solanki's murder still a mystery

Update: 2012-05-26 09:42 GMT
A year has gone by since Neetu Solanki was murdered, stuffed in a bag and dumped at the New Delhi railway station. But the suspected murderer, Raju Gehlot, is still absconding.

Sources told Millennium Post that a few days ago, Delhi police received a tip-off, but Raju Gehlot, who had lived together with Solanki, managed to slip through the dragnet yet again.

In an attempt to lure informers, Delhi police on Thursday increased the reward money from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh for any clues as to the whereabouts of Raju Gehlot.

According to sources, a mobile number in Uttrakhand had been traced to reach Gehlot and a trap was laid by the crime branch. But somehow, Gehlot was alerted about the intended raid and escaped before the cops could reach there. On February last year, a body of a girl was found in an bag at New the Delhi railway station. Later, she was identified as Neetu Solanki, a 30-year-old resident of Navada village in west Delhi. Solanki was an LLB from Delhi University.

She was in a live-in relationship with Raju Gehlot, who is a Delhi University pass out. He also has diploma in French language and Master's in Tourism.

Solanki was supposedly murdered by her live-in relationship partner. The post-mortem report had revealed wounds on the left hand, back of the neck and thighs. Two of these wounds were caused by a sharp object.

After her murder, Gehlot had apparently sought the help of his friend in disposing the body. But his friend denied to give him his vehicle. Then he used a rented vehicle to dump the body at the railway station. Two days later, he went to his friend's place and stayed there a few days. By the time Delhi police traced Gehlot, he had already escaped. The Delhi police instead apprehended a relative of Gehlot and produced him before court. He was later released on bail.

Delhi police, said the sources, are hoping for fresh clues with the increase of the reward. S K Jain, deputy commissioner (crime), was unavailable for comments.
