MP: Mohan Yadav Cabinet greenlights ‘Gareeb Kalyan Mission’ in line with PM’s GYAN initiative

Bhopal: In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s GYAN vision, the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet led by Mohan Yadav on Wednesday approved the launch of the ‘Gareeb Kalyan Mission (GKM)’, which aims to eradicate poverty from the state by 2028.

The development came three days after the launch of the Yuva Shakti Mission. The Chief Minister has announced the launch of four missions this year to empower the poor, youth, farmers, and women to carry forward PM Modi’s vision, ‘GYAN pe Dhyan’.

These missions are Gareeb Kalyan, Yuva Shakti, Annadata kalyan and Narisashaktikaran. The CM launched the Yuva Shakti Mission on the 163rd birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

In a significant move, the Cabinet, chaired by CM Yadav, gave approval for the implementation of the GKM.

Briefing media persons, the Urban Development and Housing Minister, Kailash Vijayvargiya said that the aim of the GKM is to make the state poverty-free by 2028, and efforts will be made to reach out to every poor and deprived, to know how the poverty could be eradicated by the end of the current year.

The mission seeks to uplift economically disadvantaged sections, ensuring their income meets a minimum level, he said.

The mission will be a joint effort by the Rural and Urban Development Departments, with support from various other portfolios, he added.

It focuses on three key components: improving the Multi-Dimensional Poverty Index (MDPI), strengthening livelihoods, and empowering existing organisations. Key priorities under the MDPI include women’s and children’s nutrition, reducing infant mortality, enhancing maternal health, promoting education, and ensuring access to basic amenities like cooking fuel, sanitation, drinking water, electricity, and housing.

The Cabinet also approved the installation of solar rooftop plants in government buildings under the ‘PM Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme. The initiative aims to position the state as a national leader in solar energy.

The council of ministers also decided to continue the ‘Mukhyamantri Machhua Samridhi Yojana’ for the financial years 2024-25 and 2025-26, with a state share of Rs 100 crore.

A budget of Rs 1,565 crore was sanctioned for the second phase of the Integrated Police Call Center and Control Room System (Dial-100) service from April 2025 to September 2030. It was also decided to bolster the police band in every district, the Cabinet approved the creation of 932 new posts.
