Award ceremony organised by GTA’s Information & Cultural Department and Nepali Academy
Darjeeling: “Our literary and musical creators are our pride. Their contributions across various fields stand as milestones for preserving our language, literature, art, and music.
These contributions eventually become part of our history and narrate the story of our ethnic pride.
Future generations will read and remember their heritage through these efforts, ensuring the survival and growth of our culture” stated Anit Thapa addressing a gathering at the Garidhura Auditorium on Monday.
An award ceremony was held at this Auditorium by the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration’s (GTA) Information & Cultural Department and the Nepali Academy on Monday in which eminent personalities from the field of literature and music were awarded.
The event honoured Chandrakumar Pradhan ‘Vichandra,’ from Mirik with the Giri Award 2024 (Literature); Lhamu Chiring Bhutia from Kalimpong with the Chuzang Dukpa Memorial Award 2024 (Music;) Deep Waiba, Darjeeling with Aruna Lama Memorial Award 2024 (Music) and Menuka Pradhan from Darjeeling with the Shiv Kumar Rai Award 2024 (Theatre).
Incidentally, Agam Singh Giri, an eminent poet, lyricist and activist was born on December 27, 1927 in Darjeeling.
He passed away on January 31, 1971 at the age of 44. Some of his important works include ‘Yuddha ra Yoddha,’ ‘Atma Byatha,’ ‘Aanshu,’ ‘Jiwan Geet’ and ‘Jaleko Pratibimba ra Royeko Pratidhwani.’
