Mumbai cops silent on action against Ggn counterparts

Update: 2016-06-05 21:25 GMT
A flurry of calls to the Mumbai Police Commissionerate found the concerned officials choosing to stay mum and keeping their cards close to their chest, even as the Mumbai metropolitan magistrate’s court order recently highlighted the Mumbai Police’s “freedom” to take necessary action in arresting the five Haryana policemen involved in gunning down Gadoli.

Gadoli was reportedly on the run after fleeing Haryana and hiding out in Mumbai in a bid to evade the Haryana police, who had announced a reward of Rs one lakh for his capture. Despite numerous tip-offs about the gangster’s whereabouts turning out to be unproductive, the Haryana cops finally struck lucky when they confirmed their latest tip-off about the gangster’s whereabouts in Mumbai where he was supposed to meet up with his girlfriend Divya Pahuja. They tracked him down and shot him to death at the city’s Hotel Airport Metro on February 7 this year.

Meanwhile, the five cops in question were on Friday suspended by DCP (Crime) Balbir Singh in an official statement on Friday, the first by Gurgaon Police on the encounter. The DCP said although Gurgaon Police have not yet received any official intimation from Mumbai Police regarding the FIR against the five policemen; they have been suspended pending the investigation in the case. This apart the family members of the gangster also said that they will hold a press conference to expose the Gurgaon cops.
