Modi magic won’t work this time: Ashutosh

Update: 2015-02-03 00:59 GMT
He also revealed his vision for the national Capital in an exclusive interaction with Sunil Thapliyal. Excerpts:

Q: What is your prediction for the forthcoming assembly election?

We are going to get full majority in the upcoming assembly election. We have been working hard after the Lok Sabha elections to regain the faith of the voters. During the Lok Sabha polls, we were not able to convince them why we had quit from the Delhi state government. Now, I can confidently say that the present situation is in our favour and people are overwhelmingly supporting the AAP and we are going to get a landslide victory in the upcoming election.

Q: No time-frame has been given by the AAP to pass the Jan Lokpal bill in this election. Why?
The Jan Lokpal Bill will be at the top of our agenda. If we form the government in Delhi, we will be getting a term of five years. We will pass the bill as soon as possible. So there is no need to give any specific time frame as of now.

Do you consider Modi wave still exists in Delhi? You miscalculated his wave during the Lok Sabha election?
We miscalculated Modi factor earlier and it worked for the BJP in Delhi during the Lok Sabha polls. Even they were not sure of winning all the seven seats in Delhi. Now, things have changed, you have seen what happened in the recent Ramlila Maidan rally. It was a flop show and since then the BJP has become panicky. There is a vacuum of leadership in Delhi BJP, so they are relying on parachute candidate (Kiran Bedi).

Don’t you think if the AAP comes to power then there would be a clash between the Centre and the Delhi government? How would you avert such a situation?
I don’t think we will face such a problem again. We are living in a democracy and people always elect the government of their choice. I firmly believe if our state government does good work, the Centre will help it in its best of capacity. The Centre and state governments follow the Constitution and both will work together to make Delhi a world class city.

The BJP alleged that AAP is anti-women. Madhu Bhaduri, Shazia Ilmi and Neena Sharma left your party. Why is there an exodus of women from the party?
People know that which party is against women. Who asks women not to wear jeans and produce at least four children? I don’t want to say any more on this issue. People know who respects women more  — AAP or BJP?

What would you say about the performance of the Modi government?
The Modi government had made many promises to the voters and now they should fulfil them. He can become the Prime Minister by making promises but now he has to work at the ground-level with lots of accountability and responsibility. People are fed up of corruption, communalism and unemployment. I think he has a tough time ahead.
