The Metro repair work of the two-way National Highway 8 (NH8) route from IGI Airport, which was blocked on one way since 5 October, has been completed at Vande Mataram Marg (Ridge Road) and the traffic on both carriageways has been opened. Structural defects were found on the Metro line, and so the the movement of the Express Line was stopped on 8 July.

‘With effect from 22 September, the arterial traffic on Vande Matram Marg had been closed from Dhaula Kuan towards Karol Bagh owing to rectification work being carried on the Delhi Airport Metro Express,’ said a DMRC official.

The heavy vehicles going towards Karol Bagh (Central Delhi) were plying via the Ring Road, Naraina Loha Mandi and Inderpuri. But the light vehicles, which were plying from Dhaula Kuan towards Karol Bagh (Central Delhi) followed the Sardar Patel Marg.

Meanwhile, the commuters faced a harrowing time to commute to their work places everyday via different routes. ‘It was difficult to commute from Dhaula Kuan to Karol Bagh, as one part of the road going towards the Airport was closed. I had to take a longer route to commute everyday to office,’ said Sunil Malhotra, a commuter. ‘It is a good news that the repair work is over, and the commuters can take the normal route from now on,’ he added.

But a DMRC constructor on site, Amit Singh, said, ‘The public inconvenience is not the only issue which was cropping up. They have to wait till it is fully ready to restart. The  safety of public is more important to us.’
