The New Year’s Eve in Gurgaon saw around 800 challans, making it the maximum number of challans issued compared to that of an average day in the entire year. According to the data received from the traffic and challan department of the city, it was noticed that 16 people were challaned between 7 pm to 2 am for driving drunk on December 31.
In an overall assessment of the challans issued, the year 2015 saw a hike of around a lakh challans as compared to 2014. The statistics received from the traffic department shows that 2014 recorded a total of 3,91,933 challans and 2015 recorded a total of 4,80,270 challans.
In what may seem even more surprising was that 2015 recorded the highest level of alcohol consumption recorded in the breath analyzer. Sources from the challan department revealed that people with as high as 107mg/100ml of alcohol were caught driving and were challaned. This festive season recorded 45,000 challans in December itself. According to the sources, 2015 witnessed less challans on the eve of New Year, as most traffic officials were put on VVIP duty.
