Lekhi sees Congress as her key opponent

‘People want leaders who can deliver on their promises. People believe in our honesty, commitment and believe that we will deliver on our promises,’ said Meenakshi Lekhi. She added that there was overwhelming support for the party in these elections.

The Aam Aadmi Party holds seven out of 10 assembly segments in her area. However, Lekhi remained unperturbed by those numbers. ‘People regret voting for AAP as it made tall promises but delivered nothing. They are a front opened by the Congress to protect their interests,’ she said. Lekhi considers Congress’s Ajay Maken as her main opponent.

Millennium Post caught up with her on Tuesday afternoon, while she was on her way to an interactive session with a market association in a restaurant in South Extension. At the restaurant, she answered all type of queries ranging from national security, corruption to taxation and other civic issues. She promised to deliver on many concerns, if she were to be elected. From here, she directly went to Sewa Nagar Chowk in Kasturba Nagar area where supporters welcomed her by bursting crackers, garlands and showering rose petals on her.

She refuses to accept Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a challenger in these elections. ‘People voted AAP as they wanted to get rid of Congress. However they feel betrayed as eight MLAs of Congress ran the AAP government in the state. The only work AAP government did was giving over Rs 350 crore subsidy to power companies without awaiting the completion of CAG audit,’ she contended.

As she reached the Subhash Market area, traders on both the sides of road showered her with rose petals and voiced their support for her and Narendra Modi. As the campaign in this area is being spearheaded by senior BJP leader Shikha Rai, a significant number of women were also present. ‘Availability of potable water, better roads, toilets sand sanitation facilities are my main concerns for the area besides health, women security and job for youths’, she said.
