'The Winners' to take part in Independence Day parade

Kolkata: "The Winners", the special all-women patrolling team of the city police to combat and prevent incidents of molestation and eve-teasing in the city, will be a part of the Independence Day parade in Kolkata.

It may be mentioned that "The Winners" were introduced by the Kolkata Police recently and they have been immensely successful in bringing down crimes against women in the city.

Now, the team is going to

be the part of the Indepen-dence Day parade, along with officers from other wings of the Kolkata Police and West Bengal Police.

The parade will begin at 10 am and continue for around 11.30 am. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be paying floral tribute at Netaji's statue after the end of the parade.

According to an official in the state secretariat, a team of women officers of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) will also be taking part in the parade. This is the first time when the Mounted Police will also be participating in the parade.

In the beginning of the parade, there will be a tableau of "Safe Drive Save Life". There will be a team of the Rapid Action Force as well. Officers of the Kolkata Police will also be performing different demonstrations for the first time in the parade. A contingent of Odisha Police will also be taking part.

There will be around 980 children who will be performing in the parade and they are from schools including Nava Nalanda, The Heritage School, Patha Bhavan, Modern High School for Girls, Khalsa School, Al-Ameen Mission and Adarsh Hindi High School.

Besides the "Safe Drive Save Life" one, there will be six tableaus on projects including Sabujshree, Kanyashree, Rupashree, Khadya Sathi, Sabujsathi and one of the tableaus will be of the Youth Services and Sports department with a theme of football.

The theme of the Information and Cultural Affairs department is "Sampriti". Some beneficiaries will be walking along with the tableaus of different projects. Veteran and present generation football players will be walking along with the tableau of the Youth Services and Sports department.

There will be a total of eight rehearsals for the parade and they have begun from July 31. The rehearsals will take place in the early hours without affecting the movement of traffic.
