Kolkata: Howrah Municipal Corporation (HMC) has decided to hold bi-weekly review meetings, to take stock of the progress of all development works.
It comes at a time when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has directed the civic body to take necessary steps, so that all tasks can be carried out in a better way.
During the recently held administrative review meeting in Howrah, Banerjee directed the top brass of the HMC to ensure that all work is done on time for the benefit of common people.
According to the sources, the top brass of the civic body held a meeting after the administrative review meeting and they have decided to hold bi-weekly meetings in which there will be discussions regarding the works taken up by all the departments of HMC.
The bi-weekly review meetings will be headed by Mayor Dr Rathin Chakraborty and he will be taking stock of the progress of work of all the departments.
Sources said all the Members Mayor-in-Council will be attending the meetings. Senior officials of all the departments will also be attending the meeting.
The Mayor will be taking stock of all the ongoing projects and he will also be enquiring whether any ongoing projects are facing any trouble or glitches.
In case there is any problem with a project, the same will be discussed in the review meeting and there will be
discussions to sort out the same.
In the review meeting, there will also be discussion on the projects that can be taken up for further development of the part of the district that is under the jurisdiction of HMC.
It may be mentioned that HMC has taken several steps to ensure better services to people in the past three years. An official said that the issues related to different aspects including beautification, water supply and sewerage system, will be discussed in the meeting. There would also be discussion to ensure that no waterlogging takes place during monsoon and the accumulated water gets cleared as early as possible.
The HMC has also taken up an elaborate plan for desiltation of major drainage channels, to ensure that water from the city gets cleared fast during monsoon. Sufficient manpower was deputed to carry out the desiltation work and the work has also been monitored properly.
At the same time, the civic body is also implementing the Jal Dharo Jal Bharo project with a good pace and there is a dedicated team to carry out the task under the project.
