Kolkata: Personnel and Administrative Reforms and e-Governance department has decided to make the websites of all districts look similar, in order to avoid faking.

At the same time, it will also help netizens easily identify the official website of a district.

At present, each district has its own website and each one looks different from the other. According to the officials of the department, it is not convenient for people to access all information available in the website related to a district.

"So, the step has been taken up to give the same look to websites of all the districts," the official said, adding that all the websites will be of the same design and based on the design, the work of creating the websites will start soon.

Apart from the profile of a district, other information including details related to tourism, ongoing government projects and organisational setup of both the district administration and police, also remain available in a website of a particular district.

But with different look of each of the websites, it is time consuming for a user to access the information. Once the design of each of the websites becomes same, one will not have to give much time to find out where they need to click to get a particular information.

According to the official, the project will be taken up in collaboration with National Informatics Centre (NIC). There was a high level meeting in this connection and the work in this regard will also be taken up soon.

It may be mentioned that the state has witnessed a massive development in the sector of e-governance, with various initiatives taken up by the Mamata Banerjee government in the past seven years.

The state government has also taken up a major project to expand and upgrade the State Data Centre (SDC) to ensure "efficient" delivery of e-service to common people, despite the fact that the Centre has stopped sanctioning fund to support e-governance programmes under National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), that was introduced during the regime of the UPA I government. But the Centre had stopped sanctioning the funds for the project from the 2016-17 financial year.

Moreover, there will be addition of services in the e-district portal of the state government. Sources said that at present, one can access 85 different online services through the e-district portal.

Soon, it will go up to 115 and later, more services will get added. The 30 services that will get added include 11 services of the state Power and Non-Conventional Energy Sources department.
