Kolkata airport set to get state-of-art air traffic control tower

Airports Authority of India (AAI) has sanctioned the construction of a new air traffic control (ATC) tower for Kolkata Airport at a total cost of Rs 240 crore. The height of this tower would be around 86 m.

The new air traffic control tower  has become more essential for Kolkata Airport as some areas of the apron and taxiway new Integrated Passenger Terminal building are out of the tower’s visual coverage.

The new facility would enable traffic controllers to get a 360-degree view of the operational area (both the city and air side).

While inaugurating the new Integrated Terminal Building at Kolkata Airport recently, President Pranab Mukherjee was all praise for Airports Authority of India for providing world-class facilities.

'The new Kolkata airport terminal is an example of how efficiently the public sector too can create world class facilities,' Mukherjee had said on the occasion.

Airports Authority of India keeps on upgrading airports to ensure the latest state-of –the –art facilities to air travelers and airlines operating from various places across the nation.

'This is an ongoing process at Airports Authority of India,' explained an AAI official.


FLYING COLOURS FOR AAI  AT WORLD ATM CONGRESS

Airports Authority of India (AAI) is participating in a big way at the World ATM Congress being held at Madrid, Spain, from 12 to 14 February.

The World ATM Congress is an international event organised by  the Global ATM Industry. It is the first major industry gathering following ICAO's 12th Air Navigation Congress in November, 2012.  The World ATM Congress is being held at Madrid in collaboration with CANSO and ATCA.  

Airports Authority of India has set up its stall at the exhibition, depicting the development and growth of the ANS as well as airport infrastructure.

The Airports Authority of India delegation, which is being led by Member (ANS) V Somasundaram, includes Executive Director (IT) P K Kapoor, GM (PR) G S Bawa, GM (ATM) A K Dutta, GM (CNS) S K Bhattacharya, JGM (ATM) S Swaminathan and AGM (GAGAN) Vineet Gera.  

There were maximum footfalls at the Indian pavilion at the Madrid international congress.
