After the expulsion of Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) leaders Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan from the top decision-making Political Affairs Committee (PAC), the first meeting of PAC was held at Kejriwal’s residence in Kaushambi on Tuesday night.
The meeting was called after senior AAP members Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav expressed a desire to meet Kejriwal on Monday. There was no representation of the Yadav-Bhushan faction in the meeting. After the exit of Bhushan and Yadav from the nine-member PAC, the remaining seven are - Kejriwal, Gopal Rai, Ilias Azmi, Kumar Vishwas, Manish Sisodia, Pankaj Gupta and Sanjay Singh. Kejriwal on his return expressed unhappiness over statements in media on party rifts, saying that this was affecting the morale of volunteers, and asked party leaders Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh and Ashish Khetan to hold talks with Yadav and Bhushan. However, Bhushan was not part of the talks that went on till 2:30 am at Yadav’s residence in Patparganj. Bhushan has reportedly said he will only meet Kejriwal.
“Kejrwal had been away for 10-15 days. Today, we will sit down and discuss everything with him,” party leader Sanjay Singh said and added that, “Everything will be reviewed at the PAC meeting.”
Bhushan on Monday had indicated that there might be a scope for rapprochement between him and Kejriwal. Bhushan said that he has sent Kejriwal a text, hoping for his speedy recovery and suggested that they meet upon his return to Delhi, to sort out the matter.
According to reports, Kejriwal replied that he will meet them ‘in a few days’. Bhushan’s conciliatory message to Kejriwal comes nearly a fortnight before AAP’s national council which is scheduled to be held on March 27 to discuss the future of Bhushan and Yadav in the party. Maintaining that the issues raised by him and Yadav were a matter of principles, Bhushan said he hoped that Kejriwal would agree to the meeting and then they could put the issue to rest by mutual agreement.
